This Tues Cisco announced their new addition to the CRS family of core routers – the CRS-3 – billed as a 322 Terabit Router.
This means it has over three times the capacity of the CRS-1 which has a maximum system capacity of 92 Tbps. A large percentage of the announcement was spent convincing us that the world needs a 322Tbps router – drawing on data from Cisco's Visual Networking Index.
Nobody's arguing with Cisco on this point.

Cisco Systems has unveiled a new Internet core router called the CRS-3, which it claims has three times the capacity of its current platform.
PC World reports Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers as saying:
At full scale, the CRS-3 has a capacity of 322T bits per second, roughly three times that of the CRS-1, which was introduced in 2004.
It also has more than 12 times the capacity of its nearest competitor.

According to a report released by Signal Hill, the introduction of CSR-3 router by Cisco System (NASDAQ: CSCO ) is likely to benefit the entire technology sector.
The new router will help in increasing demand for NetLogic (NASDAQ: NETL ), Cavium (NASDAQ: CAVM ), and PMC-Sierra (NASDAQ:PCMS), as they will reap the benefits of increased bandwidth demand for video traffic.
Cavium, and NetLogic will also benefit by spurt in demand for their processor, and KGB solutions, respectively.

Verizon, Juniper Networks, NEC Corporation of America, and Finisar Corp. have announced the successful completion of a real traffic 100 Gbps (100G) optical fiber transmission field trial, applying standards-based optics end-to-end and using the latest in 100G native router interfaces.
AT&T and Cisco announced 100G news this week also.

Prior to Tuesday, there was much speculation about the earth-shattering breakthrough that Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO ) was going to unveil.
Investors were on pins and needles, not sure what to expect, but certain it was going to make the stock a must-have.
As the company's spokespeople put it, it would "forever change the internet and its impact on consumers, businesses and government."
